XPANCEO at AWE Asia: Presenting Five Cutting-Edge Smart Contact Lens Prototypes
XPANCEO, a deep-tech company developing the next generation of computing via smart contact lenses, is showcasing five advanced prototypes at the AWE Asia conference. While the company is working towards creating the first prototype of a fully functional smart contact lens by the end of 2026, conference attendees will get an exclusive preview of the innovative technologies that will be integrated into the final product.
One of the newly unveiled prototypes is a Smart Contact Lens with Nanoparticles for Color Correction, designed to enhance color perception for individuals with color blindness without the need for bulky glasses. These nanoparticles, incredibly tiny structures a million times thinner than a human hair, alter the properties of materials to create a ‘supermaterial’ that uniquely interacts with light. This interaction adjusts the light spectrum, improving contrast and enabling the 350 million people worldwide affected by color blindness to distinguish colors more effectively. Conference visitors can view the lenses equipped with these nanoparticles and even handle the samples.
Another groundbreaking prototype is a Smart Contact Lens with a Unique Optical Pattern for Verification. Smart contact lenses will facilitate everyday tasks like making payments, transferring funds, and accessing restricted areas with greater ease and comfort. The optical pattern is just one of three security layers integrated into the lens. This pattern appears differently depending on the viewing angle and distance, creating an image that can seem three-dimensional from one perspective but flat from another, revealing only a portion of a security code. This dynamic visual effect makes replication nearly impossible, offering a higher level of security than traditional biometric methods like iris scans or fingerprints.
Additionally, XPANCEO is presenting prototypes that have been refined and enhanced for the conference. These include the world’s first Holographic Smart Contact Lens for AR vision which is capable of displaying images with a quality previously only possible through glasses or AR/VR headsets. Another significant prototype integrates transparent electronics, featuring a working one-pixel display using patent-pending technology with ultra-thin transparent and flexible gold conductors. Furthermore, XPANCEO will showcase an intraocular pressure (IOP) sensor crucial for early glaucoma detection. This sensor, tested on a custom eye model, is 50% more effective than today’s standard solutions.
All prototypes will be on display at booth S3. Moreover, the company founders Roman Axelrod and Dr. Valentyn Volkov will speak on the main stage at 2:25 PM on the first day, discussing how smart contact lenses could revolutionize space exploration.
